Music plays an important role in the worship experience, activities and life of the Kairos-Milwaukie UCC community. We'd like you to meet the people who bring their many gifts and talents to bear in making the music happen whenever the community gathers.

Kathy Walden (seated) grew up in a musical church family. She taught strings and orchestra in Forest Grove, Oregon for 30 years. She enjoys "fiddling around" with a wide variety of music, including classical, jazz, folk and most anything that the church choir finds fun to sing. In recent years, Kathy has collaborated with Dave Parker (left) on several compositions of church choir music; Dave composing the music and Kathy adapting the lyrics based on scripture and sermons heard during worship services here.
Colin Alexsei Shepard (right) was born in and adopted from St. Petersburg, Russia by a music loving family. Starting the Tucson, Arizona Boys Chorus when he was eight and beginning piano lessons at age nine, he continued his way through life loving music and maintains an active music life in Portland, Oregon. He accompanies faculty and students at Portland State University, maintains the principal piano chair with the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra, and is the main pianist for Opera Theater Oregon. He has been premiered on KQAC 89.9 FM All Classical radio in Portland, Oregon performing Debussy's L'Isle Joyeuse. Colin is an actively sought local accompanist for opera, chamber music, musicals, and choir. He is currently continuing studies at Portland State University training to be a professional opera coach.
Ian Timmons, Music Director (center-right) is a gifted vocalist and student of opera at Portland State University, where he has appeared in various opera productions. He is also among the alumni of the internationally acclaimed and award-wining PSU Chamber Choir. Ian serves as the Kairos-Milwaukie UCC "cantor", leading the congregational singing, and as a soloist.
Katie Regan (center-left) studied music at Portland State University and is an versatile vocalist who graces us with her talents in jazz, gospel, contemporary and classical song.
Dave Parker (left) has been a respected music educator for 43 years. Dave has conducted high school band in Ontario, Lincoln City and Gladstone, Oregon. He also has been the director of bands at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. His groups have won numerous contests and awards. Dave is in his 15th year as Jazz Band Director at the University of Portland. He plays trombone professionally in the Portland area, is active as a clinician, adjudicator and writer. His works have been published by Hal Leonard, and Barnhouse Inc. He is occasionally spotted at Kairos-Milwaukie UCC playing the electric bass, keyboards and trombone during worship.
On December 23, 2012 the Kairos-Milwaukie UCC choir was joined by members of Metropolitan Community Church of Portland and students and alumni of Portland State University in a performance of Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria.
